As a linklist owner I receive a lot of submissions every day that I must decline for mostly simple mistakes.  I thought I would write an article on how to construct a freesite that will be accepted at almost any linklist.

Site Structure

A freesite typically has 4 pages.  An index page, main page, and 2 galleries.

Index Page (index.htm)

This is the first page of your freesite.  On this page you must place the reciprocal links to the linklist you plan on submitting to, an adult content warning and a clear "Enter" link.  There must not be any other links on the index page with the text "enter", this includes banners.  Doing such is cause for rejection as a false enter link.

Reciprocal table and warning text must be above the "Enter" link.

You must have a site title at the top of this page.

Main Page (main.htm)

This page simply links to your gallery pages.  Your gallery links should be labeled clearly as "Gallery 1" and "Gallery 2".

Gallery Pages (gallery1.htm, gallery2.htm)

This is where you place your content.  If you are submitting picture galleries make sure you have at least 12 pictures per gallery.  These pictures should be clear and the total pixels of both sides should add up to at least 1200 pixels.  For movie galleries you should have at least 3 movie clips per gallery that add up to at least 1:00 minute in length.

What You Should Know

Here are some tips to follow when constructing and submitting your freesite

• Content Is King - A reviewer is looking at your content more then anything.  Blurry pictures, movies, or thumbs as well as overused content will get your freesite rejected.  For a nominal fee you can purchase your own content which will not be overused and can even help sales since the surfer hasn't seen it before.




• No Blind Links - Blind links are strictly forbidden in freesite design.  A blind link is any link that does not inform the surfer they are leaving the freesite.

• All Content Must Be On The Same Domain - Do not hotlink images or link to files on a different domain then your index page.
   

• Show Your Whois - If you hide your domain registration information many quality linklist will not list you.
   

• Make Your Site Easy To Get To The Galleries - Don't play hide the enter link or resize your gallery links to a fraction of an inch.  Your site should be easy for the surfer to find both the enter link and your gallery links.  Confusing the surfer will make your conversion ratios go down.
   

• No More Than 3 Outbound Links Per Page - This is extremely important.  You can only link to pages outside your freesite 3 times per page.  This includes both banners and text links.  2257 links or a general copyright link are not considered outbound links.
   

• Change Your Templates - Only submit the same freesite template once per month.  Make sure you change the colors, banners, and text of each site template you make.
   

• Read The Rules - Some linklist have very specific rules you must follow to get your freesite listed.  These rules are always linked somewhere on the submit page. There is no reason you shouldn't take the time to look them over, it could save you wasted time submitting a site that will not get approved.
   

• All Links Must Open In The Same Window - You must open every link on every page of your freesite in the same window.
   

• No Pop-Ups or Javascript - The use of Pop-Ups or JavaScript is generally banned in the freesite world.
   

• Freesites Are Permanent - Do not remove a submitted freesite from your server unless you want to be blacklisted by the linklists you submit to.  If you must take down a site for some reason or another be sure to contact the site owner and inform them of your plans, this should keep you in good standing with the webmaster.
   

• Fill Out Your Forms Correctly - A major reason for rejection is incomplete information or selecting an inappropriate category.  Be sure to double check every submit form you fill out before you hit the submit button.
   

• There Better Be Nudity - Unless you are submitting softcore or lingerie freesites each gallery should have a significant amount of nudity.  These are porn linklist and surfers expect to see naked people.
